Central Bank official jailed for embezzlement

A criminal court in Abu Dhabi has jailed a Central Bank official for three years and fined him Dh2.5 million for embezzlement.

The official was found guilty of misappropriating public money and forging official documents with intent to defraud, according to a statement issued by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

The statement did not say how much money was involved, but quoted the court as saying that the official misappropriated money under his control by forging documents belonging to the Central Bank.
